Portfolio

The final project in FMX 210 was to create a portfolio that showcased all of the projects that we did this semester. I really loved this class, and had a feeling at the beginning of the semester that I would. This type of design with combining art and technology has always appealed to me. I think it's really cool that for the projects we used photos of ourselves. It makes everything so much more personal.

This portfolio took me a long time to finish. I forgot to keep track of the hours, but it took me well over 10 hours. A majority of that time was picking colors to go on pages and try to make everything come together in an organic way. I didn't choose a template but I did try to find inspiration from looking at a ton of examples. It was really cool to see the different formats and set ups that could've been used. I'm really happy with how the portfolio turned out, I think it came together quite nicely.

Business Cards

Artist Statement

I had fun time designing these business cards. The first draft for these three business cards were basically all the same, the only difference was the color scheme used in each. After going back and redesigning two of the business cards, I ended up with the cards I have in the pictures above. I'm glad that I changed the design on two of them, because there's way more options now. With deciding what colors to use on the business cards, I was pretty limited due to the fact that the logos I created were each a specific color. Overall, I'm extremely happy with this outcome and enjoyed this project.

doll project

Artist Statement:
This goal of this project was to use an image of ourselves and turn it into a doll/toy. We could use any of the techniques we learned in class and showcase them through this project. Overall, I'm extremely happy with how my completed project turned out. I had some trouble in the very beginning with using Photoshop, but once I got over those troubles I was able to create a clear vision of what I wanted to do.

I think the biggest issue I ran into was the position of my body in the picture because it limited me with what I could and couldn't do. Also, some of the stuff I tried just didn't look good so I decided to keep most of my body unchanged. Looking back on this project, I know wish I would've added strings to make my body into that of a marionette puppet. I think if I would have added the strings, my body would seem more doll-like. If I have extra time, I might try to add/ change what was critiqued in class because it's pretty fun to create something new that I never would've done on my own time.

BW to Color

Original Picture

Photoshop Pictures

Artist Statement:
For this project we needed to take a picture of ourselves and turn the picture black and white. Then we needed to add color back to the picture using color adobe and the different color options they had for us. There was analogous, monochromatic, triad, compound, complementary, and shades. We also had to use our tag brush. This project took a lot longer than I thought it would, but I'm pretty satisfied with the end results considering I had no idea on how to use photoshop at all before. I definitely picked up a new skill and can't wait to use it again.

tagbrush

Artist Statement:
In class we learned how to make a tag brush. There were a lot of steps in making this tag brush, but I really like the outcome. It's cool how you can export the brush and then import for another file. The colors used in this make it pop and seem 3D since the brush stamps are only slightly off.

portrait poster

Artist Statement
The objective for this project was to create a portrait of ourselves in illustrator from a picture we liked of ourselves. I decided to use a picture that showed more than just the face because I liked the look of the photo. When designing this portrait I knew that I wanted to focus on me and my body rather than the trees and flowers, so instead I added a cute little design. The use of the bright colors contrast against the skin and dress. I chose the words Free Spirit because I thought this picture conveyed a very laid back and carefree attitude and I wanted to showcase that even more. Overall, I really enjoyed this project and like how it turned out, I'll probably continue using this program for future projects. I actually used Illustrator to design a t-shirt and I learn something new each time I use it.

apple gradient mesh

Gradient Mesh Project
Artist Statement
I loved working on this project. It was so much fun messing around with the gradient mesh tool. It was a little difficult at first for me, but once I got the hang of it, it became pretty cool. This project made me think a lot about different colors and how to make them flow from one color to another. The colors of the gradient mesh don't match up completely with the actual picture but I kind of like it that way. This project in illustrator challenged me quite a bit, but I'm very satisfied with the outcome. The only thing I would add to it would be the little brownish specks that are spotting the apple.
